CBCGDF BASE: Celebrating the Chinese New Year Starts with Consciously Resisting Wild Game

The Chinese New Year is approaching. As one of the most important festivals for Chinese people, the Chinese New Year's Eve dinner is not only an important moment for family reunion and enjoyment, but also carries everyone's infinite expectations for happiness in the coming year. The Biological and Scientific Ethics (BASE) Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) calls on people not to eat wild animals for the New Year's Eve dinner. A harmonious Chinese New Year starts with consciously resisting wild game.

In recent years, global epidemics have warned us more than once. Many wild animals carry a large number of viruses, bacteria, parasites, etc. Excessive consumption of wild animals may not only cause harm to the eaters themselves, but also pose the risk of an epidemic. The World Health Organization has clearly pointed out that illegal hunting, trading and eating wild animals are one of the important ways for viruses to spread to humans. It's time for us to wake up.

For a long time, there have always been some people obsessed with eating wild animals, treating pangolins, civets, snakes, etc. as "delicious food", and even foolishly believing that these wild animals can "cure diseases". Little do they know that these wild animals not only cannot replenish the body, but may also die from it. Reports of illness or even death due to eating wild animals are common, but there are always some people who do their own thing and turn a blind eye. Driven by vanity and curiosity, they still buy and eat wild animals, causing some wild animals to be on the verge of extinction.

As we all know, the ecosystem is an organic whole. Once a species is sharply reduced in number due to over-hunting, it will inevitably affect the entire ecosystem, thereby exacerbating the loss of biodiversity. Therefore, for a harmonious Spring Festival, we can start by consciously resisting the use of wild animals on the table. We can choose local ingredients, plant-based foods or sustainably farmed meat products. This is not only a protection for our own health, but also an investment in nature.

Finally, let us protect wild animals with practical actions, consciously resist eating wild game, let the light of civilization illuminate every corner, and let the flowers of harmonious coexistence between man and nature bloom.
