Strengthening the Legal Guarantee, the "Regulations on the Protection of Ancient and Famous Trees (Draft)" Was Reviewed and Approved | CBCGDF Submitted 23 suggestions

On January 3, 2025, the State Council Executive Meeting reviewed and approved the "Regulations on the Protection of Ancient and Famous Trees (Draft)". This is the first special law on the protection of ancient and famous trees issued at the national level in China, which will provide more solid legal support for the protection of precious ancient and famous trees in my country.

As early as October 2023, during the period of public solicitation of opinions on the regulations, the Legal Working Committee and Research Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) jointly put forward 23 suggestions. The suggestions include "People's governments at or above the county level and the competent departments of ancient and famous trees should disclose the reporting telephone number of ancient tree protection units on protection signs, official websites and relevant media platforms"; "When pruning measures are taken on ancient and famous trees, it is necessary to conduct pruning degree and ancient tree health and safety assessment, and record the pruning assessment results and actual pruning results";"Special ancient and famous trees, special habitats on which they depend for survival should be protected", etc.

Since 2016, the CBCGDF has established three ancient tree protection areas in Henan, Hubei, Hainan and other provinces, and has proposed the establishment of "Ancient Tree Protection Day" for many consecutive years, making many practices to protect ancient trees and famous trees. The review and approval of the Regulations on the Protection of Ancient and Famous Trees (Draft) will further standardize the protection of ancient trees and famous trees in my country, and further promote the active protection of ancient trees and famous trees in China by all sectors of society.
