Call for Papers: Special Issue on ‘The Future Role of Greenland’ in the Journal of Island and Marine Studies | CBCGDF Oecan&Wetlands WG
The Journal of Island and Marine Studies
(JIMS) invites submissions for a special issue on ‘The Future Role of
Greenland.’ Greenland’s ice sheet, a critical frozen reservoir, offers insights
into past and future climate change. Recent studies show an accelerating loss
of ice, contributing to rising sea levels due to complex interactions between
atmospheric circulation, albedo changes, and local factors. This highlights the
urgent need to understand and mitigate climate change impacts.
Beyond ice dynamics, Greenland’s unique
marine and terrestrial ecosystems, home to species like the narwhal, face
significant environmental pressures. Balancing economic development with
environmental conservation is crucial as industrial activities increase and
traditional lifestyles are challenged. Additionally, Greenland’s strategic
location and resources have drawn geopolitical interest, emphasizing the need
for a comprehensive understanding of its future role.
Submissions are welcome on the following
topics:
- Climate
change and ice sheet dynamics
- Marine
ecosystems and biodiversity
- Sustainable
development and economic opportunities
- Cultural
heritage and social consensus
- Policy,
governance, and international cooperation
Papers should be between 5,000 and 15,000
words and follow JIMS submission guidelines available at Guidelines for Authors. Manuscripts should include a cover
letter, author biography, title page, structured abstract, research manuscript,
and references. The title page should list the paper title, author names,
institutional affiliations, and keywords.
