New Rhododendron Species Discovered in China’s Guangxi

Chinese researchers have discovered a new species of rhododendron in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and named it Rhododendron yuanbaoshanense.

The findings were published in a recent issue of the journal Phytotaxa, according to the Forestry and Landscape Bureau of Guangxi's Liuzhou city.

Rhododendron yuanbaoshanense, which grows to a height of 1-2 metres, has broadly ovate to orbicular leaves with a cordate auriculate base and pink to pale pinkish-purple, funnel-shaped campanulate to campanulate corollas, which distinguish it from other species within the genus Rhododendron.
