EU Commission Launches Public Feedback Period on a Uniform Format for Nature Recovery Plans to be Submitted by Member States | Open until 7 February

The Nature Restoration Regulation, which comes into force in August 2024, is a landmark piece of legislation aimed at restoring the health and productivity of Europe's environment.

On 13 January, the European Commission launched a public feedback period on the common format for Member States' national restoration plans under the Nature Restoration Regulation. The feedback period is open until February 7. This is a pioneering example of using digital planning tools to reduce administrative burdens, re-use existing information and adopt a 'report once' approach.

It is designed to be a dynamic and transparent tool that provides legal certainty while significantly reducing the administrative burden on Member States. It achieves this by avoiding duplication of reporting, pre-filling data from other sources where possible, and prioritising user-friendliness.

This uniform but flexible format will allow all relevant actors, including public authorities at national, regional and local level, as well as stakeholders (including citizens, farmers and other businesses), to be informed and involved in the planned restoration measures, as appropriate and as required by the Regulation.

It will also make it easier for stakeholders, governments and citizens to compare and evaluate national plans and track progress over time.
