CBCGDF International Department Holds a Preparatory Meeting for the CBD COP16 Resumed Meeting | Rome, Italy, February 2025

On the morning of January 14, 2025, the International Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) held a preparatory meeting for the Resumed Crucial Biodiversity Discussions of the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD-COP16), and made detailed discussions and studies on the contents to be reviewed at the resumed meeting and the time nodes for participating in the meeting.

Originally scheduled to be held in 2024, CBD COP16 was suspended due to insufficient legal quorum in the later stage of the meeting. After consultation by the Bureau, the Resumed Crucial Biodiversity Discussions of the CBD-COP16 will be resumed at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy from February 25 to 27, 2025. The meeting will continue to discuss key issues that have not been completed, including fund mobilization, improvement of financial mechanisms, and monitoring and planning of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).

For this resumed meeting, the CBCGDF International Department has completed the formation of the delegation and passed the nomination review of the CBD Secretariat. The delegation will attend the meeting in person.

As an observer to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), CBCGDF was invited to attend the first part of the COP16 meeting held in Colombia in 2024, and held a biodiversity technology and innovation exhibition with the theme of "The Road to Harmony between Man and Nature" during the conference. The exhibition covers the CBCGDFs Community Conservation Areas(CCAfa) and OECMs, the joint release of the "African and Asian Desert Locust Disaster Monitoring and Assessment Report" with the Vegetation Remote Sensing Mechanism and Pest Application Team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the use of Human-based Solutions (HbS) to promote ecological restoration, species reintroduction, public participation and other aspects, showing the long-term efforts of Chinese social organizations in biodiversity conservation, especially the bottom-up efforts.
