CBCGDF Volunteers Assisted Bayan County Public Security Bureau in Investigating the Case of Bird Poisoning in Rice Fields

On January 21, after learning that birds were poisoned in rice fields in the border area with Suihua City, Bayan County of Harbin City attached great importance to it. The Party Secretary of Bayan County required relevant personnel to find the first scene, deal with the incident and prevent similar incidents from happening again.

On the morning of the 21st, the Bayan County Public Security Bureau, the County Forestry Bureau, and the relevant leaders of the Hongguang Township Government where the incident occurred contacted the CBCGDF volunteers and rushed to the scene to check. When everyone arrived at the rice fields on the side of the Nanni River section in Baoshan Town, Suihua City, they found that nearly half of the rice in the several acres of unharvested rice fields that originally attracted a large number of wild birds to come for food had been harvested, and the remaining half of the unharvested rice was mostly trampled on the ground. It turned out that morning, 30-40 cows from the local village accidentally entered the rice fields and trampled the scene into a mess.

After a careful search, the Bayan County Public Security Bureau and the County Forestry Bureau found two piles of rice grains that had been poisoned in the rice fields, but no dead birds were found. The staff of the Food, Drug and Environmental Protection Brigade of the Bayan County Public Security Bureau took samples of the poisoned rice grains on the spot. The staff of the county and township government departments also hung three eye-catching banners near the rice fields in this area, which read "It is strictly forbidden to illegally use hunting traps, hunting snares, sticky nets, feed poison bait, etc. to poison wild birds" as a warning.

Afterwards, the staff of Hongguang Township Government of Bayan County also actively entered various villages and towns, posted a large number of propaganda slogans for protecting wild birds, and widely publicized "It is forbidden to harm or poison wild birds in any way" and "It is illegal to harm wild birds" through village loudspeakers and village WeChat work groups, in the form of popular legal education, to alert local villages and towns and enhance their awareness of ecological protection. In addition, the Hongguang Township Government also convened a meeting of the heads of various villages and towns, requiring that the legal knowledge that it is strictly forbidden to kill or poison wild birds must be notified door to door.
