Volunteers from the CBCGDF Suihua Wetland Conservation Area Clean up Illegal Fishing Nets Twice a Day, Together with the Local Law Enforcement Departments

From December 24 to 25, 2024, volunteers from the Suihua Wetland Conservation Area(CCAfa) of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) cooperated with the Fishery Law Enforcement Detachment of the Suihua Municipal Agriculture and Rural Bureau, the Fishery Law Enforcement Brigade of Beilin District, and the Fishery Law Enforcement Brigade of Wangkui County to clean up illegal fishing nets in the Hulan River Basin.

CBCGDF volunteers reported that there are still many illegal winter fishing in some sections of the Hulan River. Some illegal fishermen cast nets during the day, while others cast nets on the frozen river surface at night. In response to this situation, the Fishery Law Enforcement Detachment of the Suihua Municipal Agriculture and Rural Bureau and the district and county law enforcement brigades went down to the river twice a day, morning and evening, regardless of danger and fatigue, to inspect and clean up illegal fishing nets.

On December 24, 2024, CBCGDF volunteers, together with the leaders of the Fishery Law Enforcement Detachment of the Suihua Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau and the personnel of the Fishery Law Enforcement Brigade of the Beilin District, went to the Hulan River section under the jurisdiction of the Beilin District for patrol.

In the Qinjia section of the Hulan River, the patrol personnel found that there were indeed many ice holes that had been chiseled on the ice surface of this section. Although the ice holes were frozen again after being chiseled due to the cold weather, the patrol personnel were still able to judge at first glance whether there were nets such as ground cages under the ice. The patrol personnel first chiseled the ice holes with a steel chisel, and then collected the nets hidden deep in the glacier with their bare hands or with tools such as iron rakes. For ground cages with live fish, the patrol personnel often put the live fish back to the Hulan River as soon as possible.
