UNEA-7 Theme Announced: Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet

On 12 December 2024, the UNEA Bureau announced the UNEA-7 theme, "Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet", after extensive consultations with Member States and observers, including major groups and stakeholders, led by the UNEA Presidency.

The theme is a strong signal for the acceleration of sustainable solutions and effective responses for a safer and more resilient planet.

The theme recognises that the pursuit of a just, equitable and inclusive world depends on advancing sustainable development, promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth, social development and environmental protection for the benefit of all, as recognised in the Future We Want.

A resilient planet means prioritizing healthy ecosystems, reducing resource intensity and increasing efficiency, reorienting consumption and production demands towards sustainability, and using new technologies and practices to anticipate and prevent environmental risks in a sustainable way. Success and real catalysts for achieving the SDG's will require that all these conditions are underpinned by effective and inclusive environmental governance and respect for the human right of a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
