" Dual Protection for Bird and Lines " Paves a New Path, State Grid Brazil Company Visits Gaoyou Power Supply Company to Learn Experience | CBCGDF Migratory Bird Lifeline project | BCON

Recently, the research team of State Grid Brazil CPFL Company visited State Grid Jiangsu Yangzhou Gaoyou Power Supply Company to discuss the work of "protecting transmission lines and caring for birds" . Brazil, known as the "bird paradise", has 1,822 species of birds, of which 238 are endemic. CPFL, the third largest power company in Brazil, faces the problem of transmission line failures caused by bird activities, with a failure rate surge of 94% in 2022. Since 2021, the State Grid Public Welfare Foundation has jointly implemented the "Migratory Bird Lifeline" project with ecological protection agencies. Gaoyou Power Supply Company, as a pilot, has effectively reduced the bird-related failure rate and protected the Oriental White Stork by installing protective baffles, strengthening monitoring and patrols, and establishing volunteer service stations.

The research team inspected the bird prevention equipment and measures at Yangzhou Power Supply Company, and had an in-depth discussion on the use and operation and maintenance of the prevention and control equipment. The "Migratory Bird Lifeline" project has been carried out in 24 project sites in 19 provinces and cities, and has rescued more than 13,000 protected birds. Physical line protection and bird-loving workstations and Oriental White Stork Protected Areas have been established, which has promoted the introduction of the Oriental White Stork Protected Area Management Measures. In 2022, on the State Grid transmission line towers incubated more than 4,000 young birds, including more than 350 Oriental White Storks. CPFL company showed great interest in Gaoyou Power Supply Company's "bird- transmission line symbiosis" measures. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the effectiveness of the use of prevention and control equipment, the daily operation and maintenance of transmission lines, and the mobilization of social forces.

The "Migratory Bird Lifeline" project is a public welfare project jointly organized by the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and the State Grid Public Welfare Foundation. The project focuses on protecting rare birds such as the Oriental White Stork and Crested Ibis along the transmission lines. Focusing on six dimensions, including multi-party collaboration, scientific research, technological innovation, policy promotion, patrol and rescue, and public education, the project aims to scientifically promote the "bird- transmission line " dual protection public welfare undertaking and promote the harmonious coexistence of power grids and birds by building a bird-caring and line-protecting alliance.
