CBCGDF Legal Working Committee Welcome Active Suggestions on First Revision of the Fisheries Law

The Fisheries Law of the People's Republic of China was promulgated and implemented in 1986. The law has played an important role in strengthening the protection, proliferation, development and rational utilization of fishery resources, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of fishery producers, and promoting the development of fisheries. However, some problems have gradually been exposed in practice, such as the need to improve the institutional measures to promote green ecological aquaculture, strengthen the source control of illegal fishing, and strengthen fishery supervision and management.

On December 25, 2024, the Fisheries Law of the People's Republic of China (Draft Revision) was announced and opinions are being publicly solicited.

The Draft Revision has 7 chapters including 88 articles, which have made relatively comprehensive revisions to the current Fisheries Law from the aspects of promoting and standardizing fishery aquaculture, strictly managing fishery fishing, strengthening the proliferation and protection of fishery resources, and strengthening fishery supervision and management.

The Legal Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) attaches great importance to this and will organize special discussions to put forward opinions and suggestions. We welcome active participation from all sectors, especially the front-line volunteers and grassroots law enforcement personnel who have long been engaged in fishery resource protection and willing to express your insights based on experiences in the work process, to jointly contribute to the improvement of the quality and efficiency of the fishery resources and green development.
