Mr. Wang Yanjing: The Differences Between Modern Agriculture, Organic Agriculture, and Ecological Agriculture

Recently, Mr. Wang Yanjing, director of the CBCGDF eco-civilization station, founder of Siyuan Family Farm in Zaozhuang, Shandong, and a farmer entrepreneur, submitted a paper, in which he elaborated on his long-term practice and thinking on ecological agriculture.

Wang Yanjing distinguishes modern agriculture, organic agriculture, and ecological agriculture based on his extensive practical experience. Modern agriculture relies on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, while organic agriculture avoids these, opting for certified organic fertilizers and biological pesticides. Ecological agriculture, however, follows the principle of "using nature to restore nature" and emphasizes soil fertility and ecological balance without the need for chemical or biological interventions. It uses local fertilizers rich in organic matter and practices biodiversity to control pests naturally, contrasting with organic agriculture's approach of substituting chemicals with biological agents.

Ecological agriculture stands out for its simplicity and cost-effectiveness. Wang Yanjing argues that it produces results with lower costs than both chemical and organic agriculture. By employing techniques such as late planting and soil tillage to control weeds, ecological agriculture reduces the need for labor and chemical inputs. This approach not only maintains soil health but also fosters a balanced ecosystem that naturally regulates pests, making it a sustainable alternative to traditional and organic farming methods.

Wang Yanjing believes that ecological agriculture is the future of agriculture, as it is based on the protection of biodiversity and the promotion of a natural equilibrium. This method is not only simpler for farmers to implement but also more sustainable in the long run, making it a necessary trend in agricultural development.
