Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF Attended the 8th meeting of the Steering Committee of the 20-year Strategic Vision of the IUCN

On the night of December 16, 2024, Beijing time, the 8th meeting of the Steering Committee of the 20-year Strategic Vision of the World Conservation Union (IUCN) was successfully held online. WANG Huo, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) and Editor-in-Chief of OceanWetlands, attended the meeting as a member and made two  suggestions on relevant topics.

The IUCN 20-year strategic vision responds to the relevant resolutions of the 2021 World Conservation Congress, and is committed to guiding IUCN to use its world-leading data and knowledge to support policies, plans and their implementation in the next 20 years, and to convene key stakeholders including the private sector at the international, regional and national levels to advance the integrated governance process, improve policy coherence, and share data and best practices to achieve its established goals.

IUCN is an international organization dedicated to protecting the natural environment and promoting sustainable development. It was founded in 1948 and is headquartered in Gland, Switzerland. It is also the only environmental organization with a permanent observer seat in the United Nations General Assembly.

As one of the most important international organizations in the field of global environmental protection, the IUCN plays an important role in formulating international environmental protection policies and regulations. In the past few decades, it has promoted the introduction of many international conventions including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). As an initiative to actively participate in global environmental governance, Wang Huo, as the only member from China in the IUCN 20-year Strategic Vision Steering Committee, has actively participated in the process of planning the next 20-year strategy for the international organization since 2022. She participated in the drafting and consultation process of the draft strategy, attended the vision draft formulation meeting many times and put forward many constructive opinions.
