"Jiabaoer" Sends New Year Greetings! The CBCGDF "3+1" Green Guardian Family gathers together!
Jiabaoer(Chinese: 甲宝儿) is the fourth animation IP image of the "Green Guardian Family" jointly launched by the Publicity Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and the famous designer and IP planner Cheche. It is based on the pangolin and endowed with the meaning of "forest guardian".
The reason for choosing pangolins is not only that they like to eat termites and play an important role in protecting the ecological health of forests, but also because of the suffering they have experienced in the past and now.
Although they are covered with hard scales, when they curl up to avoid predation, it is difficult for beasts such as lions and tigers to bite them, but these scales have also become their "original sin" - because some pangolins are labeled as having medical effects in some aspects, they have become one of the mammals that suffer the most from illegal trade, accounting for about 20% of the illegal trade of wild animals.
In order to combat illegal poaching and smuggling of pangolin scales and their products, the CBCGDF Pangolin Working Group has successively carried out pangolin protection actions and actively participated in the pangolin rescue operation.
In March 2019, the Pangolin Working Group participated in the rescue of 5 pangolins in Guangdong. At that time, the pangolin working group of the CBCGDF named them "Not Moving"(Chinese:没动), "Last Night"(昨夜), "Sleepy"(嗜睡), "Snoring"(打呼) and "Xiao Mao"(小毛) respectively based on the life characteristics and health conditions of the five pangolins.
Pangolin smuggling is rampant, but rescue is very difficult. They are timid and cautious. After being tortured by illegal traffickers, most of them can hardly survive. Some of them cannot wait for rescue at all and end their lives by being scaled and stripped.
According to data released by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora(CITES) in 2018, the number of Chinese pangolins has decreased by 90% in the past 20 years, and it is difficult to find them in many areas.
On June 5, 2020, China adjusted all species of pangolins from national second-class protected wild animals to national first-class protected wild animals; pangolins were also removed from the 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (Part I).
People's awareness of protecting pangolins is slowly increasing, but it is far from time to breathe a sigh of relief. As a member of the CBCGDF "Green Guardian Family", we hope that everyone can get to know them better through this two-dimensional way, understand the difficulties they have experienced, the plight of survival, and help them improve their hope for the future.
Jiabaoer is also our "family treasure". Designer Cheche specially designed a heart-shaped leaf on Jiabaoer's forehead, heart-shaped texture on their soles, and the small earth in their hands, symbolizing the protection of love and warmth - humans protect Jiabaoer, and Jiabaoer also protects the planet on which humans depend for survival.
The advent of Jiabaoer's IP has brought together the four current members of the "Green Guardian Family", including: "Ocean Guardian" - Haibanban(Chinese:海斑斑), to "Sky Guardian" - Jingyaner(京燕儿), "Highland Guardian" - Hualingling(华羚羚) and "Forest Guardian" - Jiabaoer. CBCGDF hopes to protect the green earth together with them, together with everyone who loves life and nature.
