"Jiabaoer" Sends New Year Greetings! The CBCGDF "3+1" Green Guardian Family gathers together!

Image
Jiabaoer (Chinese: 甲宝儿 )  is the fourth animation IP image of the "Green Guardian Family" jointly launched by the Publicity Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and the famous designer and IP planner Cheche. It is based on the pangolin and endowed with the meaning of "forest guardian". The reason for choosing pangolins is not only that they like to eat termites and play an important role in protecting the ecological health of forests, but also because of the suffering they have experienced in the past and now. Although they are covered with hard scales, when they curl up to avoid predation, it is difficult for beasts such as lions and tigers to bite them, but these scales have also become their "original sin" - because some pangolins are labeled as having medical effects in some aspects, they have become one of the mammals that suffer the most from illegal trade, accounting for about 20% of the illegal...

Nepal Announced that the number of Tigers has nearly Tripled

Image
The year 2024 is a special one as it marks the second year since Nepal announced that the number of tigers in the country has nearly tripled.   Back in 2010, there were only 121 tigers in Nepal. Now, the latest figure stands at 355. This achievement is the result of over a decade of efforts and is part of a global campaign to save tigers. 13 countries, including Nepal, reached an agreement and set a goal: to double the number of tigers by 2022. Nepal ’ s achievements not only met the targets but also far exceeded expectations. Deep in the forests of Nepal lives the Bengal tiger, one of the five remaining tiger subspecies in the world and the only tiger species in Nepal. The Terai Plains of Nepal are home to tigers and also the place where the relationship between tigers and humans is the most tense. It is said that over 100,000 tigers lived on this land in Nepal a hundred years ago. However, with the large-scale migration of humans, land reclamation and agricultural development in ...

CBCGDF-OceanWetlands Submitted 7 Suggestions | "Wetland Protection and Development Plan for Shunyi District, Beijing (2024-2035) (Draft for Comments)"

Image
On December 25, 2024, the relevant departments released the " Wetland Protection and Development Plan for Shunyi District, Beijing (2024-2035) (Draft for Comments) " for public consultation. The OceanWetlands Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) responded positively to the call, and after careful study & discussion, finally submitted the following  7   suggestions for reference in its scientific decision-making. The details are as follows: 1.  [General suggestion]  It is recommended that the consideration of “ native species ” be included. Currently the document does not mention the concept of “native species”. (1) Native species are species that have been adapted to the local ecological environment for a long time, and they have a deep symbiotic relationship with the wetland ecosystem. In the process of wetland restoration and reconstruction, prioritizing the selection of native species can better restore...

According To Research In Recent Years, Tourism Leads the Pack In Growing Carbon Emissions|CBCGDF Responsible Tourism Working Group

Image
It found tourism's global carbon footprint increased from 3.7 gigatons (Gt) to 5.2 Gt between 2009 and 2019. The most net emissions were reported in aviation, utilities and private vehicle use for travel.   The emissions growth rate for tourism was 3.5% per annum during the decade while global emissions increased by 1.5% per annum from 50.9 Gt to 59.1 Gt. A paper about the findings, 'The carbon footprint of global tourism', publishes  in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Climate Change.   Given that tourism is set to grow faster than many other economic sectors, the international community may consider its inclusion in the future in climate commitments, such as the Paris Accord, by tying international flights to specific nations. Carbon taxes or carbon trading schemes — in particular for aviation — may be required to curtail unchecked future growth in tourism-related emissions.   The study found air travel was the key contributor to tourism's footprint and that...
