What is the Latest Status of Biodiversity? | 2023 State of Ecology & Environment Report in China Released

On June 5, 2024, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment officially released the2023 State of Ecology & Environment Report, which objectively reflects the national ecological environment status and changes in 2023 with comprehensive, detailed and accurate monitoring data, and comprehensively displays the progress and achievements of national ecological environment protection in 2023.

 


 

2023 State of Ecology & Environment Report introduced the latest status of biodiversity in China from three aspects: ecosystem diversity, species diversity and genetic diversity.

 

The evaluation results of 39,330 higher plants showed that there were 11,715 higher plants that needed to be focused on and protected, accounting for 29.8% of the total number of assessed species, of which 4,088 were threatened, 2,875 were near-threatened, and 4,752 were data-deficient.

 

The assessment results of 4,767 vertebrate species (excluding marine fish) show that 2,816 vertebrate species need to be focused on and protected, accounting for 59.1% of the total number of assessed species, of which 1,050 are threatened, 774 are near-threatened, and 992 are data-deficient.

 

The assessment results of 9,302 known macrofungi show that 6,538 macrofungi need to be focused on and protected, accounting for 70.3% of the total number of assessed species, of which 97 are threatened, 101 are near-threatened, and 6,340 are data-deficient.
