Mr. XIAO Qing, CBCGDF Deputy Secretary-General Delivered a Speech Entitled The Win-Win Road of Technological Innovation and Fur Free at the 2024 Empathy New Fashion Forum

On October 19, 2024, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), Act Asia Special Fund and Shenzhen Garment Industry Association jointly held the "2024 Empathy New Fashion Forum: New Quality Productivity Promotes Sustainable Fashion Future". This is an important part of the 10th International Sustainable Fur Free Fashion Festival and one of the activities on the official agenda of S/S 2025 Shenzhen Fashion Week. Mr. XIAO Qing, Deputy Secretary-General of CBCGDF, was invited to attend and delivered an opening speech entitled "The Win-Win Road of Technological Innovation and Fur Free".

Dear guests and friends, good evening!

First of all, on behalf of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, I would like to extend a warm welcome and sincere thanks to all the guests attending the 2024 Empathy New Fashion Forum!

The proposition of "New Quality Productivity Promotes Sustainable Fashion Future" is very critical. In the context of globalization and digitalization, the fashion industry is also facing unprecedented changes. In order to cope with global issues such as climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss, it has become a top priority to promote the sustainable development of the high-tech, high-efficiency, and high-quality fashion industry through technological innovation. In this process, the promotion of the "fur free" concept is particularly important.

Technological innovation has spawned new industries, new models, and new momentum, and is the core element of developing new quality productivity. This concept also applies to the fashion industry. In recent years, more and more brands, designers, manufacturers, and fashion practitioners are exploring new paths for sustainable development through technological innovation. Green and low-carbon products and zero-fur products are becoming a new trend in the fashion industry and are increasingly favored by consumers. For example: 2023 Shenzhen Fashion Week has also become the world's first carbon-neutral fashion week, demonstrating Shenzhen's active exploration of green development in the fashion industry, which will undoubtedly promote the green and low-carbon development of the fashion industry.

The "fur free" concept is not only a concern for animal welfare, but also a practice of the concept of "using nature to nourish all things." With the advancement of technology, artificial fur is not only similar to animal fur, but also better, and has significant advantages in environmental protection and sustainability. Products such as "plant-based leather clothing" are increasingly recognized and welcomed by consumers. These all show the changes in the consumption choices of the new generation of consumers. They hope that the fashion industry will take sustainable development as its goal and put forward the demand to protect animals, especially against the use of animal fur. More and more industry leaders and brands have also catered to this mainstream trend with practical actions. Many luxury brands have decided to give up the use of animal fur. From this point of view, transformation is the general trend of the fashion industry.

In the future, I believe that with the participation of more fashion industry stakeholders, the concepts of fur free, biodiversity protection, green and low-carbon development will be more widely and deeply promoted and practiced in the fashion industry!
