CBCGDF Recruits Partners for Research on the List of Black Soldier Flies as Feed Additives
Recently, the Innovation and Creation Department of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) planed to organize and promote the feasibility study of the use of black soldier flies(Hermetia illucens) as feed additives, and will promote the implementation of relevant policies for entry into the list. As an insect closely related to the ecological environment, the relevant research work on black soldier flies is of great significance. We sincerely invite institutions in related industries to participate in the preparation and support the preparation, and jointly formulate group standards for the breeding of black soldier flies and their use as feed.

Hermetia illucens, the black soldier fly, is a common and widespread fly of the family Stratiomyidae. Since the late 20th century, H. illucens has increasingly been gaining attention because of its usefulness for recycling organic waste and generating animal feed.
In the process of raising black soldier flies, scientists found that the content of protein and fatty acids in the body of black soldier flies is very high. Studies have shown that feces processed by black soldier flies can become high-quality organic fertilizer. The most important thing is that compared with other protein feeds, harmful bacteria such as Salmonella are almost undetectable in the body of black soldier flies. Therefore, adding black soldier flies to feed can effectively improve the quality of feed. However, when using black soldier flies as feed, they still need to be sterilized before they can be put on the market. Therefore, black soldier flies have great feed potential.
