CBCGDF Volunteer Discovered a Unique Fern Cyrtomium falcatum in Dongzou Mountain, Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province

Recently, Mr. ZHOU Chong, a volunteer of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), discovered a unique fern on a cliff in Dongzou Mountain, Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. Its leaves are smooth and leathery on both sides, and circular spores are distributed on the back of the pinnae.

After careful identification by experts, this fern was confirmed to be Cyrtomium falcatum, belonging to the genus Cyrtomium Presl of the Dryopteris family, is an extremely rare fern and has been listed in the list of vulnerable (VU) species in the "China Biodiversity Red List - Higher Plants".

The new discovery of Cyrtomium falcatum in Dongzou Mountain, Lianyungang City, not only fills the distribution habitat record of this rare species in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, but also has important scientific and ecological value. This new discovery further enriches the biodiversity resources of Lianyungang City and provides scientists with more information about the ecological environment and survival status of Cyrtomium falcatum.
