China and Azerbaijan Deepen Strategic Partnership and Jointly Promote Development
On 3 July 2024, the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Azerbaijan announced the establishment of a strategic partnership. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992, China and Azerbaijan have achieved significant cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields. Facing a complex international situation, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation to safeguard peace and development. The strategic partnership is based on mutual respect, equality, and trust. Azerbaijan supports the one-China principle, while China backs Azerbaijan's peace agenda and efforts against terrorism and extremism. The two countries aim to enhance trade, investment, and infrastructure cooperation, optimize trade structures, and improve market access.
On 17 June 2024, Academician Isa Habibbayli, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, visited the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF). The visit focused on discussing climate change response, scientific and technological exchanges, and green development cooperation. The two sides signed a strategic cooperation agreement to actively participate in global climate governance. This visit was part of preparations for the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan, further deepening cooperation in climate response, scientific exchanges, and green development.
