AI for Biodiversity Needs Biodiversity in AI First | Dr Jinfeng ZHOU Delivered Theme Speech at the IEEE FTS 2024

On July 18, 2024, Dr. Jinfeng Zhou, Secretary General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and academician of the World Academy of Arts and Sciences, was invited to attend the 2024 IEEE Future Technology Summit (IEEE FTS 2024) held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and delivered a speech on the theme of "AI for Biodiversity Needs Biodiversity in AI First".

Dr. Zhou pointed out that in the development and application of AI, we should pay special attention to promoting the mainstreaming of biodiversity and introducing correct information on biodiversity conservation and climate change. As early as 2021, the UNESCO)fully adopted the recommendations of the CBCGDF on the inclusion of the term "biodiversity" and the establishment of an ad hoc expert group to involve experts in the fields of biodiversity and climate in drafting the UNESCO's first-ever global standard on AI ethics - Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.

He listed many erroneous practices that have been approved after scientific verification and are often positively evaluated and reported, emphasizing that the scientific and technological understanding of natural operation in the industrial civilization is still insufficient. We should be vigilant against the rapid development of AI technology. Only by incorporating the correct concepts of biodiversity and climate change into the development of AI can we truly protect human habitats and achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
