CBCGDF Volunteers Fight against Illegal Fishing and Protect Fisheries in Songyuan City | CBCGDF BCON
Biodiversity Conservation in Our
Neighborhood (BCON) launched in 2021 by China Biodiversity Conservation and
Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), is an approach that encourages
protection of biodiversity in people's daily life and activities. This includes
minimizing human disturbances to nature, reducing disturbance to wildlife,
protecting biodiversity, cherishing the value of wilderness, and conserving
natural habitats in human's surrounding areas.
On July 18, 2024, the fisheries protection
action was organized again in Ningjiang District, Songyuan City, Jilin City, to
comprehensively clean up illegal nets in the Songhua River, minimize human
disturbances to nature, reduce disturbance to wildlife and protect biodiversity,
which is the practice of the “Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood”.
This action was organized by the Fishery
Administration of the Ningjiang District Agriculture and Rural Bureau of
Songyuan City, the Agricultural Law Enforcement Brigade, the Fishery Law
Enforcement Squadron, the Public Security Bureau and other units of the Ningjiang
District. The volunteers from the China Biodiversity and Green Development Foundation
(CBCGDF) provided assistance throughout the whole action.
For two consecutive days, staff and
volunteers patrolled more than 100 kilometers, cleared illegal nets, checked
non-compliant fishing boats, and promoted the necessity and management system
of the fishing ban to citizens along the way to enhance the public's
understanding of fishery protection.
This action has strengthened the publicity
of the fishing ban period and played a good warning role for illegal fishing
personnel. Fishery administration staff stated that they will continue to
increase water management in the future to ensure the healthy and good development
of fishery resources and ecological environment in domestic waters.
CBCGDF volunteers called on the public
that the fishing ban period is an important period for aquatic organisms to
recuperate and rest. We cannot ignore the sustainable development of fisheries
for the sake of immediate interests.
