A Boa Constrictor Escaped form Longyan Zoo in Fujian Province again | CBCGDF Recommends zoos improve escape plan mechanism
According to media reports, a boa constrictor escaped from Zhongshan Park Zoo in Xinluo District, Longyan City, Fujian Province.
The boa measuring two to three meters in length and the size of an adult’s arm escaped from its cage on July 21, 2024. Currently, the zoo, police, and forestry department are working together to search for the boa.
The escape of the python could cause ecological impact. As a carnivorous animal, the python may hunt local small mammals and birds, causing potential impacts on the local ecosystem, especially for endangered species.
From the perspective of human impact, the presence of the python could pose a threat to public safety, create panic. Although the python is not an aggressive animal and is not poisonous, its huge size and appearance, as well as the potential harm it could cause to children, can easily trigger public panic, especially in densely populated areas.
From the perspective of the zoo, it needs to improve its escape contingency warning mechanism. Zoos must strictly follow relevant laws and regulations, strengthen safety management, and prevent animal escape incidents from occurring to ensure public safety and ecological safety.
