CBCGDF Volunteers Assist in Protecting the Songhua River During the Fishing Ban Season | CBCGDF BCON & CCAfa

Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) launched in 2021 by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), is an approach that encourages protection of biodiversity in people's daily life and activities. This includes minimizing human disturbances to nature, reducing disturbance to wildlife, protecting biodiversity, cherishing the value of wilderness, and conserving natural habitats in human's surrounding areas.

On July 17, 2024, the volunteers of CBCGDF Wetland Conservation Area in Suihua assisted the Fishery Administration Squadron of the Agricultural Law Enforcement Brigade of Ningjiang District, Songyuan City, to carry out a comprehensive fishing protection action during the fishing ban season in the Songhua River waters and surrounding wetlands. This is the practice of the “Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood”.

The patrol team first came to the public waters to check the situation. After the on-site visit, the law enforcement officers of the patrol team explained to the contractors of this area that it is prohibited to use any illegal fishing nets for fishing during the fishing ban period. Afterwards, the patrol team went deep into the big wad mudflats and drove about 60 kilometers along the Ersong section of the Songhua River. During the period, an illegally laid ground cage net was found and immediately cleaned up, and some fish were rescued.

The Ningjiang District Agricultural Law Enforcement Brigade expressed their sincere gratitude to the CBCGDF volunteers for their active participation, and looks forward to continued collaboration and cooperation in the future to jointly protect the Songhua River.
