Occurrence Data of Phytomia zonata in Beijing Released on Global Biodiversity Information Facility | CBCGDF GBIF Working Group

In early July 2024, the occurence data of Phytomia zonata was released to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). The data was recorded by citizen scientist in Wudaokou, Haidian District, Beijing, and reported to the GBIF Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF). Thanks to CBCGDF expert Professor LIU Yusheng of Shandong Agricultural Engineering College for providing species identification.

Phytomia zonata belongs to the family Tachinidae and is native to East Asia, including China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and the Russian Far East. They play an important role in agricultural and forestry ecosystems and help maintain the healthy growth of plants. They mainly live in mountain forests, grasslands, farmlands and feed on aphids. Their larvae parasitize in the host to complete most stages of their life cycle. Phytomia zonata is also widely used in biological control, especially as an effective means of controlling pests such as aphids.

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international network and data infrastructure funded by governments worldwide, aiming to provide open access to data on all forms of life on Earth. The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation is a data publisher of GBIF. Since joining GBIF in 2018, the Chinese association has been committed to serving scientists, citizen scientists, and conservationists, contributing to biodiversity informatics with the collective efforts from science community and citizen scientists from China.
