CBCGDF Volunteers Rescued a Young Roe Deer | Why are Disguised Traps so Rampant?
In early July 2024, the volunteers of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) rescued a young roe deer in Datonghe village, Raohe County, Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. The roe deer’s leg was stuck in a trap made of steel wire, and the volunteers took more than two hours to rescue it.
Raohe
County is located in the northeastern border of Heilongjiang Province. The
county's forest coverage rate is about 51%, and wild animals are abundant. This
rescue incident shows that someone is poaching in the forest area.
China’s
"Wildlife Protection Law" explicitly prohibits the sale and use of
steel wire traps. However, disguised Traps are still being sold on some
e-commerce platforms, some of which are marked as "rat catching
artifacts", but in fact they are disguised traps.
CBCGDF
is very concerned about whether the e-commerce platforms that sell these
products have a corresponding qualified review mechanism? Is there any way to
prevent such animal traps from entering the market? CBCGDF welcomes everyone to
work together to find a way to prevent more wild animals like the roe deer from
being harmed by them.
