Focusing on the Animal Diversity of the CBCGDF CCAfa in Tongbai Mountain to Protect the Animals in the Source Area of the Huaihe River

The Community Conservation Area in Tongbai Mountain of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) is located in the border area between Henan Province and Hubei Province in China. Most of the northern side of its main ridge is in Henan Province. It is the transition zone from Qinling Mountains to Dabie Mountains. It belongs to the western section of Huaiyang Mountains and runs northwest-southeast. It is the watershed between the Huaihe River Basin and the Yangtze River Basin. CBCGDF CCAfa inTongbai Mountain is located in the transition zone between the warm temperate zone and the northern subtropical zone. The region has a warm and humid climate, lush vegetation, and rich animal and plant resources. It is an important treasure house of animal and plant resources in central China. Here, we analyze the literature and combine it with biodiversity-assisted surveys to sort out the characteristics and changes of animal diversity in Tongbai Mountain to enhance people's awareness of biodiversity and protection in Tongbai Mountain.

There are few literatures related to animal diversity in Tongbai Mountain Area. According to Ge Yinrong's (1983) study on wild fur animal resources in Henan Province, there are 27 species of wild fur animals distributed in the Tongbai-Dabie Mountain Area ofHenan Province, including weasels, leopard cats, otters, leopards, muntjacs, etc. According to the investigation and research on birds in Tongbai Mountain conducted by Li Yanjuan and Jin Mingxia from 1983 to 1984, there are 162 bird species in Tongbai Mountain, belonging to 17 orders and 37 families. Among them, there are 124 breeding birds, including 56 Oriental species, 27 Palearctic species and 41 widespread species. In addition, Tongbai Mountain is located in the transition zone between the Oriental Central China region south of the Qinling Mountains and the Palearctic North China region north of the Huaihe River, and the bird fauna of the Tongbai Mountain area also presents transitional characteristics.

According to the research of Yan Jun and Wang Zhigang (2015) on the GAP analysis of the protection of the diversity of the Huaihe River source animals, based on the protection of the diversity of the Huaihe River source animals analyzed by GAP, Tongbai County has priority protected rare and endangered animals such as the white-crowned long-tailed pheasant, leopard, white stork, black stork, great bustard, golden eagle, antelope owl, and giant salamander. According to the survey of animal resources in the Tongbai Mountain area conducted by Zhao Haipeng et al. in 2018, there are 139 bird species (belonging to 15 orders and 43 families), 7 mammal species (belonging to 4 orders and 7 families), 6 amphibians (belonging to 1 order and 4 families), and 9 reptile species (belonging to 1 order and 4 families) in the area, including 1 national first-class protected animal (1 bird) and 11 national second-class protected animals (8 birds and 3 mammals).
