China to Experience the Hottest Year on Record in 2024

According to the China's National Climate Centre on Thursday, the average temperature in China in 2024 was the highest since 1961, when the country started keeping complete meteorological records.

The national average in 2024 was 10.9 degrees Centigrade, 1.01 degrees Centigrade above the annual average, breaking the previous record of 10.71 degrees Centigrade set in 2023.

A total of 19 provincial-level regions recorded record high temperatures last year, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Henan and Shaanxi.

Average rainfall across the country reached 697.7 mm in 2024, 9 per cent higher than the annual average.
