CBCGDF Volunteers Rescued a Common Buzzard with Injured Wings in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province

At noon on January 6, 2025, volunteers from the Community Conservation Area in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF), received a message for help on WeChat: Someone said that an eagle was found in the yard of the unit and could not fly, and hoped that professionals could help rescue it.

After inspection at the rescue station, the common buzzard had a wing injury, which was probably caused by a collision during flight and foraging. Therefore, when it was discovered, it had become quite thin due to hunger and was much smaller than normal birds of the same type. Next, it will receive treatment and recuperation for a period of time at the rescue station. The entire rescue process took only one and a half hours, and each link was connected quite smoothly, which is rare.

The common buzzard is a bird of prey, belonging to the family Accipitridae, order Accipitridae. It is widely distributed in Eurasia, Africa, North America, and many other places in China. They prefer to live in mountain forests and forest margins, and are also commonly seen in open plains, deserts, wilderness, and reclaimed cultivated areas. They often move alone or in small groups, and migrate in spring and autumn every year. At present, although the global population status of the common buzzard is not very clear, this species has been listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and is also a national second-level key protected wild animal in my country.
