CBCGDF Volunteers Assisted in Releasing a 15-Kilogram Grass Carp|CBCGDF BCON

On the morning of January 6, volunteers from the Suihua Wetland Conservation Area of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) cooperated with the Suihua City Fisheries Law Enforcement Brigade and the Lanxi County Fisheries Law Enforcement Brigade to patrol the Hulan River in Lanxi County. The key points of their patrol work are the same as those in Beilin District and Wangkui County: they still crack down on illegal fishing in the Hulan River basin, protect the aquatic resources of the Hulan River, and strictly prevent winter fishing safety accidents.

This is the second time that volunteers have come to the Hulan River section of Lanxi County for patrol since the beginning of winter in 2024. The first time was on December 26, 2024. Lanxi County is located in the heart of the Songnen Plain and on the west side of the Hulan River. The name of the county is directly related to the Hulan River, which means it is west of the Hulan River. The Hulan River in this area has a relatively wide surface and relatively rich fishery resources. During the first patrol, CBCGDF volunteers and patrol personnel still found a small number of ice holes on the river surface, indicating that some people are still engaged in illegal fishing.

On the morning of January 6, 2025, the volunteer team and the Lanxi County fishery administration personnel came to patrol this section of the Hulan River again. "Although there are not many ice holes in this section of the river in general, there are still some," said the volunteer. In the process of cooperating with the fishery law enforcement of the Lanxi County fishery administration on the 6th, the large hanging nets that everyone cleared on the spot were more than 100 meters long. This kind of family-destroying net has extraordinary fishing capacity, and its damage to fishery resources can also be seen. Surprisingly, when cleaning another large hanging net, a large grass carp weighing about 20-30 kilograms was also cleaned up and brought ashore. The whole body of the fish is nearly twice the distance between the two arms of an adult.

In order to thank the Lanxi County Fishery Law Enforcement Brigade for its hard work and responsible attitude in combating illegal fishing in the past two years, on the afternoon of the 6th, after the day's Hulan River patrol operation, Green Association volunteers took the initiative to send a banner to Captain Pan of the Lanxi County Fishery Administration who was injured during the patrol, praising him as a "river protection warrior and fishery pioneer". According to the unified deployment of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the province's winter fishery law enforcement operation will continue until mid-March this year (2025).
