ZHOU Jinfeng Delivered a Keynote Speech at the XVI International Media Forum on the Safeguard of Nature

The XVI International Forum for information on Safeguard of Nature, organized by Greenaccord Cultural Association, was held on October 10-12, 2024 in Rome, Italy. The theme of the forum is “Building Future Together. The Turning Point: Together We Can”. Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng was invited to attend the forum and delivered a keynote speech.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng introduced to the forum guests the work and achievements of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) in promoting low-carbon and environmental protection, environmental public interest litigation, biodiversity conservation in our neighborhood, the project of reducing plastic pollution, etc.

The Low Carbon Workshop (LCW) is a specific case model of CBCGDF carbon reduction development series, aiming to reduce carbon emissions through changes in technology, methods and practices and to encourage the wide participation of all sectors of society.

The Carbon Neutrality Consortium co-initiated by the CBCGDF, Sinopec Carbon Industry Technology Co., Ltd., the World Academy of Sustainable Development Sciences, and 10 other units, strives to become the most cutting-edge, professional, and authoritative high-end think tank in the field of carbon neutrality industry. It effectively integrates resources from eight aspects, including promoting technology sharing and cooperation, precise accounting and application, international cooperation and mutual recognition, standard system construction, low-carbon technology promotion, multi-dimensional low-carbon exchanges, data collaboration and sharing, and industry influence enhancement, to promote technological innovation and industrial upgrading, and to do a good job in addressing climate change.

The CBCGDF's Eco-site series aim to promote the development of resource-saving and environmentally friendly industries, promote low-carbon development and recyclable utilization and practice green development. This project encourages and supports volunteers, communities, and enterprises to practice green development with the concept of ecological civilization as the core idea, promote low-carbon and recyclable fields, excellent deeds dissemination and experience sharing, and promote the active participation of the whole people in the construction of ecological civilization.

Also, the CBCGDF has played an important role in environmental public interest litigation, actively participated in and initiated several environmental public interest litigation cases with social influence and legal significance, such as the Tengger Desert pollution public interest litigation case, the case of saving the endangered species Acer pentaphyllum and its Habitat, and the CBCGDF v. Yalong River Basin Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. for ecological environment protection civil public interest litigation case. The cases are not only of great significance at the legal level but also have a wide social impact.

Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) is an approach that encourages the protection of biodiversity in people's daily life and activities. This includes minimizing human disturbances to nature, reducing disturbance to wildlife, protecting biodiversity, cherishing the value of wilderness, and conserving natural habitats in human's surrounding areas. BCON breaks the traditional idea that biodiversity conservation only happens within protected areas, and promotes the appreciation of nature in places that are accessible to people. One of the advantages of BCON is that anyone can take action and contribute to biodiversity conservation. This approach is particularly effective in densely populated urban areas, and in agricultural practices. BCON aims to promote harmonious coexistence between human and nature.

In terms of reducing plastic pollution, the CBCGDF launched the "Peoples vs. Plastics" project, which is an environmental protection action aimed at mobilizing the entire society to jointly combat plastic pollution. The project responds to the theme of "Planet vs. Plastics" on World Earth Day. So far, a total of 64 activities have been held with 2073 participants and a total of more than 4,000kg of Plastic garbage picked up and dealt with.

At the 16th International Media Forum on the Safeguard of Nature, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng showcased the CBCGDF's outstanding contributions and innovative practices in several environmental protection fields. CBCGDF actively promotes low-carbon and environmental protection and sustainable development. The promotion and practice of the BCON concept, as well as the "Peoples vs. Plastics"  project in reducing plastic pollution, further demonstrate its firm commitment and practical actions in protecting biodiversity and promoting environmental sustainability.
