Dr. Peter Corne visited CBCGDF office

Over 60 years old, he still cares about environmental protection.

On October 10, 2024, Dr. Peter Corne, former co-chair of the Environment Working Group of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, an expert & an old friend of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), visited CBCGDF's office, exchanged ideas with CBCGDF Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Wang Huo.

Dr. Peter Corne introduced the work he has been involved in recent years. Dr. Corne has focused on renewable energy and cleantech solutions since 2003, and was the National Vice-Chairman of the Environment Working Group of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, and a supporter and sponsor of China's Green Technology Initiative from 2009 to 2014. He was also previously involved in climate change dispute resolution, serving as Chair of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Committee of the Shanghai Business Mediation Center, and as a member of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Panel of the Shenzhen International Arbitration Court. Now, he serves as an adjunct professor at Wuhan University, where he teaches climate change law. Dr. Peter Corne is currently pursuing a PhD in biodiversity law and COP15 impacts. He is still hale and hearty in his prime and hopes to contribute to the society as much as he can. What is admirable is that he is still actively exploring new areas of interest in order to further enrich his life and broaden the width of his life, when he should be enjoying his retirement and taking a good rest.

Ms. Wang highly appreciated his current state of mind and shared with him in detail the domestic and international work and achievements that CBCGDF has cultivated over the years. CBCGDF has been actively participating in and promoting China's deep involvement in global environmental governance, taking the initiative to follow up the latest developments of major international conventions and organizations, and serving science and technology workers. Based on Dr. Peter Corne's current area of expertise, Ms. Wang introduced the CBCGDF's efforts to promote the establishment of a national-level Biodiversity Conservation Law, as well as the related policy advice and legislative promotion series since 2016. In addition, Ms. Wang introduced to him the proposal for the 2025 World Conservation Congress and invited him to join and actively contribute to it, in which Dr. Peter Corne showed strong interest.

“Isn't it a pleasure to have friends from afar?” Dr. Peter Corne came all the way from Shanghai to meet with us and then left in a hurry. The short meeting allowed us to have a deeper understanding of each other. The conversation was very pleasant, and we look forward to more cooperation and exchanges in the future.
