CBCGDF CBD COP16 Delegation Invited to Attend the Side Event to Be Held by Bat Conservation International in Cali,Colombia

In October 2024, Ms. Linda, deputy secretary-general of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF), received an invitation from the scientist team of Bat Conservation International (BCI) to attend a bat side event at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) to be held in Cali, Colombia.

The COP16 will be held in Cali, Colombia from October 21 to November 1, 2024, bringing together governments, experts, scholars and non-governmental organizations from all over the world to discuss and promote the realization of global biodiversity conservation and sustainable development goals.

As one of the important links of the COP16, the side event hosted by Bat Conservation International (BCI) will be held on the morning of October 23, 2024, with the theme of "How Bat Conservation Contributes to Global Biodiversity and Sustainable Development Goals". This event will focus on the key role of bats in the global ecosystem and the contribution of bat conservation to the realization of global sustainable development goals.

The CBCGDF has long been committed to promoting biodiversity conservation, especially in community protected areas, endangered species protection and promoting the mainstreaming of biodiversity. This time, the CBCGDF COP16 delegation will take this opportunity to participate in the COP16 conference and related side events to conduct in-depth exchanges with the world's leading conservation organizations such as the International Bat Conservation Organization, and share experiences and achievements in the protection of bats and other endangered species.

As important pollinators and insectivores, bats not only play an irreplaceable role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, but also contribute to promoting agricultural production and ensuring food security. By protecting bats and their habitats, we can not only effectively protect biodiversity, but also promote the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, and lay the foundation for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Previously, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Green Development Foundation launched the "Bat Conservation Action Network" (BCAN) species protection initiative, which aims to promote the mainstreaming of biodiversity, enhance the protection and awareness of bats among the media and the public, serve scientific decision-making, and promote the establishment of my country's national species action plan for bat protection.

The CBCGDF COP16 delegation will actively participate in the COP16 Bat Side Event to discuss how to jointly promote bat protection and its importance in the global biodiversity conservation framework through strengthening international cooperation. We look forward to working with all parties to promote more progress in bat protection worldwide and contribute to global ecological protection by protecting biodiversity.
