CBCGDF Will Jointly Held a Side Event at the 52nd Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security
The 52nd Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 52) will be held from 21 to 25 October 2024 in Rome, Italy. This year's session will focus on the 2024 State of Food Security and Nutrition report, the endorsement of those CFS products developed by the Committee during the intersessional period, the update of the CFS Multi-Year Programme of Work for 2024-2027, the report by the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE-FSN) on "Strengthening urban and peri-urban food systems to achieve food security and nutrition in the context of urbanization and rural transformation", and other ongoing CFS workstreams and priorities.
China
Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) will
jointly held a side event on Oct 22 at CFS 52 with Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations, Alliance Bioversity-CIAT, International
Fund for Agricultural Development, International Land Coalition, One Planet
Network Sustainable Food Systems Programme, Rights and Resources Initiative,
Switzerland, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Environment
Programme,etc.
With
the CFS Multi-year Programme of Work (MyPOW) 2024–2027 prioritizing climate
change and biodiversity as key areas for achieving SDG 2, this side event will
emphasize the importance of aligning national targets under the Rio Conventions
(UNFCCC, CBD, UNCCD), including targets of sustainable agrifood systems. The side
event also aligns with MyPOW roles one and five, which aim for CFS to promote
global coordination and accountability, and to achieve greater efficiency and
effectiveness through best practices at all levels.
Through
presentations, discussions, successful case studies, and tools to support
countries in strengthening policy coherence across climate, biodiversity, land,
and food systems agendas, this side event will explore solutions to mitigate
climate change, combat biodiversity loss, and prevent land degradation while
protecting land rights.
