History of CBCGDF's development in biodiversity conservation:
In 1985, the first 22 Milu (Père David's deer) returned to China from the United Kingdom, laying the foundation for the species' revival in its native habitat.
In 1992, China joined the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and subsequently developed a national action plan.
In 1997, the “China Milu Foundation” was renamed the “China Biodiversity Conservation Foundation” to promote biodiversity conservation efforts.
In 2009, the Foundation was renamed the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) in response to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.
In 2010, the China National Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (2011-2030) was published in response to the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity. CBCGDF hosted a major event to mainstream the Strategy.
In 2016, at the CBD COP13, CBCGDF delegate Alice Hughes delivered a speech introducing China's innovative policy—the ecological protection red line system.
In 2018, at CBD CoP14, the CBCGDF's biodiversity-themed photography exhibition attracted significant attention. Additionally, it co-organized a side event focused on ecological connectivity concerning linear infrastructure.
From 2021 to 2022, in anticipation of CBD COP15, CBCGDF actively participated and helped generate enthusiasm for the event. It suggested that the COP be a green meeting.
In 2024, China released the updated China National Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (2023-2030) to implement the Kunming-Montreal Framework. CBCGDF actively resonated with this initiative and hosted a large event to mainstream the new Framework.
