What is the Origin of the Myrmicaria nigra Intercepted by Chinese Customs for the First Time?

On September 4, 2024, Zhangjiagang Customs, a branch of Nanjing Customs, found a large number of ants moving around between the door of the container and the gaps in the wood during routine inspection of a batch of imported wood.

The ants were identified by the laboratory as Myrmicaria nigra. It is reported that this is the first time that Chinese customs intercepted such ants. This discovery immediately attracted attention, and the customs quickly supervised the relevant units to carry out strict pesticide treatment on this batch of wood to ensure the ecological safety of the country.
