CBCGDF Welcomes a New Eco-Site, the Beijing Miyun Biodiversity Observation Base

Recently, the Ecological Civilization Site(Eco-site) System of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) welcomed a new eco-site, Beijing Miyun Biodiversity Observation Base(CS137).

Beijing Miyun Biodiversity Observation Base is located in Maziyu, Taishitun Town, southeast corner of Miyun Reservoir, with a total area of more than 1,000 acres, mainly mountainous. The predecessor of the base was a quarry. Due to long-term quarrying activities, the vegetation was sparse and the mountain was severely desertified. In 2004, Dr. Zheng Boyan became attached to this barren mountain and started a twenty-year ecological restoration project.

Now, the base has joined the Ecological Civilization Site System. The base will plan and improve from the following aspects to support biodiversity protection and the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, and provide new momentum for the construction of ecological civilization.

1. The base will practice neighborhood biodiversity protection, plan and improve the sample plots for biodiversity observation, plan and build secret totem flower valleys, secret mountain greenways, secret mountaineering trails, etc., taking into account both protection and development, and realizing project measures to effectively protect biodiversity in areas with dense human activities;

2. The base will practice green environmental protection concepts, improve basic service facilities such as ecological restaurants, ecological parking lots, and ecological public toilets;

3. The base will practice human-oriented solutions, refuse the use of disposable plastic products, promote the construction of a complete garbage classification system, implement recycling and reuse, and build a waste recycling art exhibition area;

4. The base will practice the concept of ecological civilization, carry out systematic research and education, improve the popularization and publicity of ecological civilization, and create a plant exploration journey, an animal search journey, a Shanhaijing exploration journey, and a mountain and sea survival journey. Four major theme study activities will be held to complete the ecological civilization education course;

5. The base will build a plant seedling breeding experimental display area to display local optimized varieties and imported special varieties as well as variety fusion technology, so that visitors can understand and experience the vegetation growth process;

6. The base will build an ecological display area to display the base's 20 years of environmental protection technology and achievements, and produce documentaries to let visitors experience the cruelty of ecological destruction and the beauty of ecological restoration;

7. The base will build an applied ecological engineering exchange platform, invite teachers, experts and professors from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and major universities and related companies to conduct research and exchanges, and promote the innovation and application of green technology;

8. The base will actively participate in green civilization publicity activities carried out across the country through "internal and external links", jointly hold various ecological civilization theme exhibitions, attract the public to visit and learn, and make full use of traditional media, online media, and self-media publicity to improve the visibility and influence of the Shanhaijing Secret Garden, and attract more people to pay attention and participate.
