Heartbreaking! Heavy Rain in Dalian, Liaoning Province Killed 2 People. Water-logging Occurred in the City. Whose Fault?

Recently, Dalian City, Liaoning Province was hit by a sudden rainstorm, and the city was instantly submerged in a vast ocean. The severe water-logging caused by the rainstorm paralyzed the traffic. What is even more distressing is that the two people died.

According to reports, on the morning of August 19, 2024, many roads in Dalian City were seriously flooded, and vehicles could not move. Water-logging occurred in some parts of the city. Near Wuyi Road, Jinpu New District, a father and daughter rode an electric bike through a flooded section of the road. They were rushed to a bus parked on the roadside by the rushing flood and eventually drowned.

According to the data from the Dalian Meteorological Service Center, from 20:00 on August 18 to 7:00 on August 19, Dalian City experienced thunderstorms, with the maximum rainfall reaching 133.7 mm. The maximum rainfall in one hour was as high as 88.7 mm.

The Dalian rainstorm incident is a profound lesson, highlighting the city's shortcomings in dealing with extreme weather. The unfortunate experience of two people drowning once again reminds us that it is urgent to improve the city's ability to adapt to extreme weather.
