34 Illegal Nets Were Cleared in 10 Hours. Illegal Fishing Still Needs to be Cracked Down on! | CBCGDF CCAfa

On August 20, 2024, in order to protect the ecological health and fishery resources of the Hulan River Basin in Suihua, a total of 10 people including volunteers from the CBCGDF Suihua Wetland Protection Area, the Anti-Electric Fishing Alliance, and supervisors of fishery resources protection in natural waters of Beilin District carried out patrol work on the rivers on both sides of the Satellite Bridge in Wangkui County.

The patrol lasted 10 hours, covering a distance of about 40 kilometers. A total of 34 illegal nets were found and cleared, including 30 ground cage nets, 1 large Xuan net, and 3 river-blocking nets, saving about 200 kilograms of various fish such as loach, crucian carp, grass carp, and catfish.

Volunteers said: "The illegal nets found during this patrol were very long, with the longest reaching 100 meters. Some of the nets caught a lot of small fish. If they were not discovered, they might not have the opportunity to grow up, let alone reproduce."

Most of the illegal nets were submerged in the river, and volunteers had to go down to the river to clean them. However, after the beginning of autumn, the temperature in Suihua dropped a lot.

According to volunteers, the river water has risen significantly in recent days, and the number of illegal nets in the river has also increased. These nets have dense holes, which are very destructive to fishery resources, and the country prohibits their use. Volunteers call on the public to protect the public interest and not to fish illegally. At the same time, they hope that the local fishery law enforcement department will strengthen the construction of the law enforcement team and promptly equip law enforcement vessels to increase the inspection of the river and protect the green mountains and clear waters!
