CBCGDF Ocean and Wetlands Working Group Actively Participates in the 2025 UN Ocean Conference Online Stakeholder Consultation
In
preparation for the 2025 UN Ocean Conference, which will be held in Nice,
France from 9 – 13 June 2025, the Secretary-General of the Conference will
prepare, in consultation with the co-hosts of the Conference, concept papers
for each of the themes of the Ocean Action panels. On August 16, 2024, the
Ocean and Wetlands Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and
Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) submitted suggestions on the concept paper.
The
high-level 2025 United Nations Conference aims to Support the Implementation of
Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas
and marine resources for sustainable development, and to accelerate action and
mobilize all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean. Among the ten final
themes of the Ocean Action Panels, CBCGDF Ocean and Wetlands Working Group provided
substantive input in the field of Conserving, sustainably managing and
restoring marine and coastal ecosystems including deep-sea ecosystems; Preventing and significantly reducing marine pollution
of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities; and Leveraging Ocean,
climate and biodiversity interlinkages.
CBCGDF
Ocean and Wetlands Working Group has been actively putting forward suggestions
for scientific decision-making and actively promote the protection of ocean
connectivity. It has participated in many global
conferences related to marine governance to promote global marine environmental
governance and marine biodiversity conservation, such as UN Ocean Conference,
2024 Ocean Decade Conference, the Intergovernmental Conference on an
international legally binding instrument under the United Nations Convention on
the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological
diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction, and the 4th International
Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), meanwhile holding a
series of side events.
