Happy World Orangutan Day!
World Orangutan Day is celebrated every year on 19 August! It is an important moment to raise awareness of the importance of orangutan conservation. Orangutans play a vital ecological role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystems of the tropical rainforests. By helping to spread seeds through their droppings, these forest farmers contribute to forest regeneration.
In June 2020, the Public Welfare Programme Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and local Indonesian NGO Conservation Action Borneo cooperated to set up an orangutan conservation base.
The base is deep in the tropical rainforest of Borneo, Indonesia, and is the first local conservation base funded by a Chinese organisation.
On 29 October 2021, the International Department of CBCGDF, and the Ape Alliance co-hosted the meeting on Apes, Biodiversity, and Climate. More than ten renowned experts participated in this meeting to discuss how apes, a keystone species, can help humans mitigate climate change, to value the ecosystem services they provide, and to push all sectors of society to pay more attention to and protect apes.
