CBCGDF Volunteers Continue Patrolling to Combat Illegal Fishing | CBCGDF CCAfa

On August 6, 2024, although the fishing ban had ended for nearly a week, volunteers from the Suihua Wetland Reserve and the Anti-Electric Fishing Alliance Workstation of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) still stayed on the front line of fishery protection and carried out patrols in the waters near the Hulan River Bridge.

During the patrol, volunteers used iron hooks to search for illegal nets such as ground traps hidden in the river. After a day of hard work, they cleared a total of 8 ground traps and rescued hundreds of kilograms of fish such as loaches and catfish. The volunteer said: "Most of the fish released are loaches. Many loaches in the nets have been dead for a while. In this case, if they are not cleaned for a long time, a large number of rotting corpses will affect the surrounding water quality."

There were many people playing under the bridge. While the volunteers were clearing out illegal fishing nets, they were also educating tourists about relevant regulations on water ecological protection and fishery management. They also introduced in detail the types of illegal fishing nets that were banned.

This day is just an ordinary day for the volunteers of the reserve. They carry out fishery protection work almost all year round. During the fishing ban period in Suihua and surrounding areas this year alone, the volunteers drove a total of about 10,000 kilometers, cleared nearly 1,000 illegal fishing nets, and rescued and released more than 8,000 kilograms of catch.

I believe that under the influence of the volunteers' actions, passers-by, tourists, anglers, and even illegal fishermen have a certain understanding of fishery protection and have changed their behavior, and their understanding and behavior changes will silently influence others. Thumbs up for the volunteers!
