CBCGDF Urges Sustainable Practices in Offshore Renewable Energy

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has been actively engaged in shaping global marine management policies through its contributions to the United Nations Global Compact Ocean Governance Alliance. CBCGDF has provided valuable input on several key areas, including enabling data-sharing in offshore renewable energy development, leveraging global public databases for biodiversity information, and implementing sustainable marine principles in offshore renewable energy projects.

In particular, CBCGDF has advocated for enhanced data-sharing mechanisms to facilitate better decision-making and improve the sustainability of offshore renewable energy initiatives. By proposing the use of global biodiversity databases, like the GBIF,  CBCGDF aims to highlight that development projects shall be informed by comprehensive and up-to-date biodiversity information. This approach not only supports the responsible management of marine resources but also aligns with broader sustainability goals.

Additionally, CBCGDF has developed a repository of case studies over the past six years titled "Wind Energy and Biodiversity Assessment Case Studies." This initiative offers a collection of research and experiences designed to guide Chinese companies towards the development of biodiversity-friendly clean energy solutions. The case studies provide practical examples and lessons learned, helping to advance the integration of environmental considerations into the design and implementation of wind energy projects.

Through these efforts, CBCGDF is playing an active role in promoting sustainable practices in offshore renewable energy, contributing to the protection of marine biodiversity while supporting the transition to cleaner energy sources. The work exemplifies the importance of integrating environmental considerations into global energy policies and serves as a example  for a joint effort in promote synergies between conservation and climate actions.
