Preliminary Ecological Investigation Should Be Supplemented, and the Construction of Alternative Habitats Should also Be Put on the Agenda | ZHOU Jinfeng Talks about Prevention and Control of Bird Collisions in Poyang Lake

Recently, in response to the bird collision that occurred on the ultra-high-voltage line around Poyang Lake during this year's migration season, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng,  Secretary-General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF), once again stated after settling that prevention and treatment should be carried out in the later stage. During the process, in addition to fully supplementing and improving the preliminary ecological investigation, attention should also be paid to further addressing issues such as the protection of the entire life process of affected migratory species, the construction of alternative habitats, and the re-evaluation of the environmental impact of temporary preventive measures.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng believes that in the Poyang Lake area, how many species and numbers of migratory birds may be affected, and the extent of the impact require sufficient preliminary research, so that we can make relative decisions about possible ecological losses. But it is not enough to just conduct an ecological investigation of birds over 20 kilometers long. We should also take a longer view and pay attention to the entire life cycle of major migratory birds that may be affected, including white cranes and swan geese. We need to protect them over a longer time line and migration route.

Zhou Jinfeng hopes to strengthen publicity on the issue of preventing bird collisions in the power grid, and insist on conducting extensive positive publicity in order to gather wisdom and efforts and mobilize more scientific research institutions, enterprises, social groups, etc. to jointly participate in solving this problem.
