CBCGDF CCAfa : A High-Density Population Distribution Area of Pallas's Cats Found in Zhangye City, Gansu Province

April 23rd every year is the International Pallas Cat Day established by the International Pallas's Cat Conservation Alliance. The Pallas's cat (Otocolobus manul) is a small cat and a second-level national key protected wild animal in China. More than 50% of the world's Pallas's cats are distributed in China.

On April 23, 2024, the Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Felid Conservation Alliance(CFCA) announced the latest discovery: there is a globally known high-density population distribution area of Pallas's cats in the desert in northern Zhangye City, Gansu Province. After three years of investigation, the team established an identification database of Pallas's cat individuals, identified 29 Pallas's cat individuals, and calculated the population density of the Pallas's cat in the area to be 18.3±7.0 individuals/100km2.

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) established the CBCGDF Pallas's Cat Community Conservation Area in New Barhu Right Banner, Hulunbuir City, on February 27, 2017, and called on the public to stop encroaching and destroying the Pallas's cat's home simply for economic gain, and to stop killing these cute cats.Let us join hands and contribute to the conservation of Pallas's cats!
