CBCGDF Peoples vs. Plastics at the Estuary of Luanhe River
To welcome the 55th World Earth Day on April 22nd, 2024 and respond to the theme of "Planet vs. Plastics", on April 17th, the Tangshan volunteer team of the " Peoples vs. Plastics " project of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) came to the Luanhe River Basin to carry out the "Beat Plastic Pollution" action, which focused on investigating the current situation of river garbage and promote science popularization and publicity.
At the estuary of Luanhe River, foam, fishing nets, abandoned life buoys and other waste materials were piled up here, in sharp contrast to the surrounding water plants, blue sea and sky.
From the perspective of the types of garbage, fishing waste accounts for a relatively large proportion. Therefore, volunteers went to communicate with local fishermen and farmers, and tell them about the hazards of marine waste. For the sustainable development of aquaculture and fishing industries, as well as the safety and health of marine life, they promised not to litter fishing nets, fishing gear, and other waste.
During the whole activity, volunteers distributed more than 100 promotional brochures, affecting more than 200 local fishermen, breeders, and divers, and the promotional goals were basically achieved.
