From China Milu Foundation to CBCGDF: A Witness of Milu Deers' Back Home and Rewild

Since its establishment in 1985, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has been dedicated to promoting biodiversity conservation and green development initiatives. Its inception traces back to the founding of the "China Milu Foundation" in the same year. A pivotal moment in its history occurred on July 17, 1985, when the Marquess of Tavistock, representing Woburn Abbey, and the Chinese Ambassador to the UK formally signed the Milu reintroduction agreement in London, marking a significant collaboration between China and the UK in the field of wildlife conservation.

The Milu, also known as Père David's deer, is one of China's rare and endangered species that faced threats to its survival. However, through the efforts of many conservationists, both governments and peoples, as well as scientists at the CBCGDF, significant progress has been made in Milu conservation. The signing of the repatriation agreement symbolized the commitment of both China and the UK to work together to protect the Milu and its habitat, providing a better environment for its survival and facilitating the recovery of its population, thus ensuring the sustainable development of conservation efforts.

Since then, over the following 3 decades, the CBCGDF has undertaken numerous important initiatives in biodiversity conservation. Through scientific research, policy advocacy, and educational campaigns, the foundation has actively promoted public awareness and engagement in biodiversity conservation. Particularly in community conservation areas (CCAfa), the foundation has collaborated with local governments and communities to establish a series of Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) sites, effectively protecting local ecosystems and species diversity.

As time progresses, the role of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation in biodiversity conservation and green development continues to grow. As a non-profit organization committed to advancing the cause of biodiversity conservation, the foundation will continue to play a leading role, collaborating with various stakeholders to build a greener and more sustainable ecological civilization, thus making greater contributions to the future of humanity and the planet.
