Yunqiao Wetland in Chengdu City Awarded the CBCGDF Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Demonstration Base

Image
After on-site review by experts from the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Forestry Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sichuan University, and Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu Yunqiao Wetland was awarded the "Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Demonstration Base" (No. BCGD-002) of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation(CBCGDF) on April 28, 2024. This evaluation was carried out based on the group standard "Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Demonstration Base Evaluation Standard" issued by the CBCGDF Standard Working Committee. It is also an important result of the local active promotion of wetland ecosystem protection and construction. It is understood that the forest and grass coverage rate in Yunqiao Wetland is 56.4%, and it has good naturalness. It attaches great importance to ecological protection and restoration based on natural forces. In terms of biodiversity, 353

Full Range of Clean in Pari Grassland | CBCGDF "Peoples vs. Plastics" Project | PP049

The "Peoples vs. Plastics" project is an environmental protection project initiated by the "Reduce & Pick-up Plastics" working group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), responding to the theme of "Planet vs. Plastics" on World Earth Day in 2024, calling for public participation and social co-governance, and hoping to rely on the power of the entire society to resist plastic pollution.   This project has received positive responses from volunteers from all over the country.  So far, a total of 49 activities have been held with 1824 participants and a total of 3572kg of garbage picked up and dealt with.   On April 22nd, the World Earth Day, volunteers from the Beauty Convention project of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) carried out the cleaning activity themed "Cherishing the Earth, Harmonious Coexistence between Human and Nature" in Pari Grassla

The Damage Caused by Intensive Travel to the Environment During Holidays | CBCGDF Climate Change Working Group

Image
People like to travel during holidays as  it gives them enough time to relax, explore new places, and spend time with friends and family. Traveling also provides an opportunity to escape from routine and experience new cultures and adventures. However, d uring holidays, the intensive travel and tourism activities can have a significant impact on the environment. The surge in transportation emissions, waste generation, and resource consumption during holiday seasons can contribute to air and water pollution, habitat destruction, and wildlife disturbance. Popular tourist destinations often suffer from overtourism, leading to overcrowding, noise pollution, and damage to local ecosystems. Mass tourism during holidays can result in increased energy consumption, land degradation, and littering. The use of single-use plastics, excessive water usage, and improper disposal of waste further exacerbate environmental problems. Additionally, the construction of hotels, resorts, and infrastructure t

The Yunnan Provincial Department of Water Resources recently issued a notice on the ‘ Measures for the Management of Bidding and Tendering for Water Conservancy Construction Projects in Yunnan Province (Draft for Comments) ’for public consultation. The "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood" (BCON) Working Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has responded positively to the call, and after careful study, the following recommendation has been put forward for reference in its scientific decision-making. 【Recommendation】 It is recommended to further improve the Draft, fully taking biodiversity into account, and explicitly include the content of "biodiversity". The relevant water conservancy construction projects should carry out comprehensive and scientific environmental impact assessment before, during and after the completion of the project and even after it is put into use, so as to ensure that the water conse

The Downsides of Different Species Interacting in a Zoo | CBCGDF Climate Change Working Group

Image
Zoos provide a unique opportunity to observe the interactions between diverse animal species that would not typically encounter one another in the wild. These cross-species interactions hold valuable insights for researchers and the general public alike. While zoos strive to provide enriching environments for the animals in their care, the close proximity of diverse species can pose significant challenges. One key concern is the risk of disease transmission. Animals naturally carry a variety of pathogens, which may be harmless to their own species but devastating when passed to another. This cross-contamination can have devastating consequences, both for the affected animals and the overall health of the zoo's population. Furthermore, the natural behavioral differences between species can lead to conflicts and even attacks. Predator-prey dynamics, for example, may manifest even in a controlled setting, with carnivores occasionally targeting smaller herbivores. This not only threate

How Does Climate Change Intensify Extreme Weather? | CBCGDF Climate Change Working Group Research

Image
Climate change exacerbates extreme weather events due to various interconnected factors. R ising global temperatures lead to increased evaporation from oceans, resulting in more moisture in the atmosphere. This excess moisture fuels intense rainfall, contributing to floods and landslides.   What ’ s more, warming temperatures also lead to the melting of polar ice caps and glaciers, causing sea levels to rise. This elevation in sea levels intensifies storm surges and coastal flooding during hurricanes and typhoons, impacting coastal communities. Moreover, climate change disrupts atmospheric circulation patterns, leading to alterations in weather systems. This disruption can cause prolonged droughts in some regions, exacerbating water scarcity and agricultural losses. C limate change   can also  increase the likelihood of extreme weather events by altering the frequency and intensity of natural climate oscillations, such as El Niño and La Niña. These oscillations can exacerbate existing
