XIE Boyang: Birds Are an Important Part of Biodiversity Conservation | 6th Ai-Yakang World Bird Day

On June 17, 2024, the 6th Ai-Yakang World Bird Day, guided by China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was successfully held in Chengdu. With the theme “Without birds in the sky, the world will become smaller”, the event aims to raise public awareness of birds and biodiversity conservation, jointly protect green mountains and rivers, and build ecological civilization. Mr. XIE Boyang, the Chairman of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation delivered a speech at the event.

He pointed out that strengthening dialogue among civilizations is an important way to build sustainable development and improve human well-being. We can start by loving birds together, using birds as a medium to build a global civilization.

Biodiversity sustains the progress of civilization and is also a fundamental guarantee for the sustainable development of human society. In recent years, the global mainstreaming of biodiversity has accelerated, and biodiversity conservation has received unprecedented attention, especially with the "Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF)" has drawn a new blueprint for biodiversity governance. In January, 2024, China released the "China Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (2023-2030)". In March, 2024, CBCGDF hosted the first symposium in response to the "Action Plan for Promoting National Biodiversity Conservation Strategy" and launched the Biodiversity Conservation Initiative. We should take this as an opportunity to truly put biodiversity on the path of restoration

Birds are an important component of biodiversity, responsible for seed and nutrient transport, participating in energy flow and inorganic material cycling within the system, and maintaining the important mission of ecosystem balance and stability. The latest research report from the BirdLife International points out that one eighth of the world's birds, or more than 1300 species, are facing the risk of extinction. The situation is already very severe, and protection needs to be taken imminently.

We should gather consensus, act with dedication, love and protect birds, and promote bird conservation. We will work together with all sectors of society to create a better future for biodiversity conservation.
