CBCGDF Ocean&Wetlands Working Group Nominated Representatives to Participate in the Organizational Meeting of BBNJ Agreement Preparatory Commission

The organizational meeting of the Preparatory Commission to prepare for the entry into force of the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (“BBNJ Agreement”) is scheduled to take place from 24 to 26 June 2024 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Ocean&Wetlands Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has nominated representative to participate in the meeting on-site.

 


In resolution 78/272 of 24 April 2024 (currently available as A/78/L.41), the General Assembly decided to establish the Commission, and further decided that the Commission shall hold a three-day organizational meeting to discuss organizational matters, including the election of the Co-Chairs and a Bureau, the dates of the meetings of the Commission and the programme of work of the Commission. to prepare for the convening of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Agreement.

 

In order to actively participate in global ocean governance, the CBCGDF Ocean&Wetlands Working Group has been sending delegations to participate in the BBNJ negotiations since the United Nations launched the intergovernmental negotiations in 2018. and actively participates in the BBNJ negotiations.
